Asphalt, bitmac and sma uses

  • Road and pavement construction
  • Carparks
  • Private estates and driveways
  • Airport runways
  • Industrial parks

Porous Asphalt

  • Single size aggregate
  • Voids created in the matrix
  • Mixture designed for sites where standing water is a problem

Hot Rolled Asphalt

  • Blend of aggreagate, sand and filler
  • Dense, hard wearing matrix
  • Expensive due to volumes of imported materials
  • Mixture for all types of sites

Surface, binder and base coarse macadam

  • Well graded aggregate mix.
  • Tight aggregate mass held together with bitumen
  • Lower cost material
  • Mixtures for all types of sites

Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA)

  • Single size aggregate
  • Voids filled with a polymer modified binder
  • Cost effective for PB to use in place of HRA, only binder to import
  • Mixture for most types of sites, but needs proper planning to limit snags, bitumen supply, tack coat, road sweeper etc.
